Llewellyn Petley-Jones

Llewellyn Petley-Jones (1908-1986)

was a well known painter of landscape and figure subjects. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, he took up art after a short career in banking. He moved to London in 1934 and studied art in Paris. He married in 1940 and settled at Richmond in south west London, from where he sent paintings to the Royal Academy beginning in 1941. Petley Jones also showed with the New English Art Club 1935-63. After a short period living in Vancouver from 1950 the artist returned to England in 1954. He had one man shows at The Waddington Galleries, Gimpel Fils and Wildenstein and his work is held in public collections including the National Museum of Wales.
